 Brief biographical summary of Gifford Doxsee:

After one year at Hobart College, Gifford transferred after the war to
Cornell University where he earned an undergraduate degree in 1948. His
graduate study was at Harvard where he earned an M. A. in 1949 and a Ph.D.
in history in 1966.

He taught junior and senior high school students (1951-1952) at The Desert
Sun School, a private boarding school in Southern California. From 1952 to
1955 he was an instructor at International College and the American
University of Beirut in Lebanon. He joined the history department faculty
at Ohio University in 1958 where he taught European, Middle Eastern, and
African history. Professor Emeritus Doxsee retired in 1994.

Since retiring he has volunteered with a number of non-profit organizations
including his church, the Athens County Historical Society and Museum,
Rural Action, Planned Parenthood, and most recently Kairos Prison Ministry.
His wife, Mary, departed this life in May, 2008, after having endured
Alzheimer's Disease for some twenty years. He continues to reside in
Athens, Ohio.
